Blogger is perhaps one of the oldest blogging platforms on the planet. This was my first blogging platform ever even before Google acquired it back in 2003. It has undergone a lot of changes, although not fairly great changes. In this post, I will teach you how to make a blog website by blogging with Blogger.
If you simply want a blog and nothing more, and at the same time if you’re looking for an affordable way on how to make a blog website, then blogging with Blogger is for you. The only expense you’ll have would have to be your domain name, which would cost you anywhere between $0.99 to $35 per year depending on which TLD or top-level domain you’d like to get.
To begin, go to www.blogger.com and sign in using your Google account. If you don’t have an account with Google yet, go ahead and create one. After which, you should be redirected to a page that looks just like the one below.
Once you have created your blog, you can then choose the theme of your choice by buying or simply sticking with the free Blogger themes. There are many free blogger themes out there and it’s just a matter of time until you find the right match. Below are a list of resources for Blogger themes.
In order to upload a new theme, you would have to go navigate to the left pane and click Theme. Then click on Backup/Restore as shown below. After which, click Choose File and locate where your new theme is at and hit upload. Viola! You have a new theme now!
This is the old Blogger interface
Unfortunately, with the new Blogger interface, there is no option to upload a premade theme and hopefully, this will not be forcefully reverted from the old interface where you have the capability to upload a custom theme. Otherwise, the only available themes for Blogger (with the new interface) is what Blogger has provided to its users. This is a new feature that has not been rolled out fully as of the publishing of this post and I will definitely update you and this post when it rolls out.
WARNING: Do not click “Try the New Blogger” button at the bottom left of the screen (please see photos above) as this will disable the ability to upload custom themes and is irreversible.
